Marine Bio Students Present at Harbor Branch

Ecology Students Present at Harbor Branch

    BN
Saint Edward’s ecology students partnered with the Indian River County Conservation Lands Division and Inwater Research Group to study the spatiotemporal shoreline biodiversity associated with the newly formed salt marsh of the Jones’ Pier Conservation Area. The students attended the Indian River Lagoon Symposium to learn more about current research related to the Indian River Lagoon system and presented their research at the poster session of the event. Scientists commended the students for their knowledge pertaining to the project and their organized and concise presentation of their research. Want to learn more about how Chase Nelson, Emmy Dichter, Kiley Donovan, Millicent Critchfield and Selma Memet researched this project? Click to see the poster they presented and click to read their abstract. Congratulations, girls!

AP Students Learn from Visiting Poet

    MJ
AP Literature students gathered together on Friday morning to fine-tune their creative writing skills with visiting poet Joseph Mills, who is in Vero as a guest of the Laura Riding Jackson Foundation. The classes broke out into groups to discuss a seemingly light subject -- their favorite food. But, as creative writers do, Mr. Mills then had the students look at their writing from different angles and discuss. If your Pirate puts grape jelly on his or her garlic bread this weekend, it's your chance to learn more about Mr. Mills' very engaging lesson!

Their time spent together was filled with big hugs, lots of laughs and friendship bracelet assembly. Seniors and their buddies are truly "butter" together! 🍿

    Bold & Gold

Eighth graders at SES were treated to a warm day at Riverside Park focused on leadership, team building and upper school life. Students were grouped into small teams led by two upper school students who were their guides for the day. The teams went through a rotation of stations, including games like volleyball, Back-to-Back (partners and bigger groups stand back-to-back and work together to try to get in and out of a seated position without using their hands) and more. The group ended their time outdoors with a high school Q&A, getting to know their future peers and what to expect in their academic journey. Click here for a short highlight reel from the afternoon.

A big shoutout to Director of Student Activities Mrs. Stalquist for organizing such a fun afternoon!

  • Campus and Alumni News Cover

    Winter Watermark Released This Week

    MJ
Watch your mailboxes this week for the winter Watermark/Annual Report that celebrates "Girl Power." Beginning in September, our design team worked with the Development office to offer a unique and creative double cover issue. The campus and alumni news side celebrates the ASP students, and the Annual Report side celebrates the varsity volleyball team. Unfortunately, our printing partner (in the last step of production) assembled the covers backwards, which makes the issue appear very confusing. They are currently reprinting the overages, so if you would like a correct copy, please email the Marketing Department, and we'll make sure you receive one. Our printer is also sending a postcard to our entire community explaining their error. We're disappointed that this issue that was intended to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of our girls on campus was compromised, but it certainly doesn't dim our pride for these young women who are already making their mark on the world.

This past December, Saint Edward's School alumni, as well as a few dads, came together to participate in the second annual mens alumni lacrosse game on campus. The event featured graduates who spanned several decades from the 90's through 2023.  Spectators loved the Kona-Ice and snacks while watching the teams square off on a shortened field with fewer face-offs, making for a fast-paced match enjoyed by all in the stands.  We can't wait to see what these players have in store for next time. So save the date for next year's event, December 20, 2024.  Here are some highlights from this year's men's game.

  • ‘Building a Bridge’ to a Bright Future

    Kelly Hudson
Working together, our third-grade students had a blast creating K’NEX bridges. They got hands-on and had loads of fun learning about forces and how bridges are made. Guess what they found out quickly? Triangles make structures super strong!

Throughout this process, students participated in designing, building, testing, and improving their bridge designs. In a climactic “Index Card Challenge,” students tested their team’s bridge strength by stacking index card packets onto their bridge until it collapsed. The bridge that held the most index card packets from Mrs. Spadaro’s class was designed by Zoey Atkins, Georgie Harper, Austen He, and Katrin Walsh and held an impressive 72 packets. Team members Alexander Brown, Charlie Lenzner, Clara Shackelton, and Payton Clarkson from Mr. Schofield’s class held an amazing 142  packets on their bridge. This super-fun K’NEX bridge project served as a dynamic platform for our young learners to understand engineering concepts better while encouraging continuous improvement and critical thinking. You can click on this link to get a glimpse into the classroom.

The Jones family won the raffle of a basket of family game night goodies, and one sweet little Pirate named Maggie donated her big prize back to the PA so all of her classmates could benefit even more from the funds raised to support the School.
